Howard County Executive Calvin Ball endorses his replacement

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has announced his choice to replace him as the county’s top leader: former state Del. Vanessa Atterbeary.

Term-limited Ball, a Democrat, has served as county executive for the past eight years. With just weeks before the June 23 primary, the sitting county executive is the latest addition to Atterbeary’s long list of endorsements.

In a post to his Facebook page, Ball said the county needs leadership that “keeps moving our community forward.”

“For more than a decade, Vanessa Atterbeary has been a proven leader in Annapolis. She does not run from challenges, but she leans into them, brings people together, and delivers results,” he said. “… Vanessa will strengthen our public schools, keep our neighborhoods safe, expand opportunity, and deliver affordability for working families.”
