Gov. Moore congratulates Atterbeary as winner of Howard County executive race
Gov. Wes Moore congratulated Vanessa Atterbeary around 10:30 p.m., Tuesday night, saying she had made history by being the first Black woman to become county executive of Howard County.
The Associated Press officially declared Atterbeary the winner, as of 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.
“We need someone who doesn’t just have the vision and the fight, but also the person who has the track record,” Moore said during Atterbeary’s watch party at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia. “I’m thankful that you gave me the partner that I need. I’m thankful that you have the leader you deserve.”
As Atterbeary, a former state delegate, took to the lectern following Moore’s introduction, she said, “Tonight, we made HERstory.”
